Not using the stock 1971 Pontiac 455 Pistons and connecting Rods in this build but cleaned up today just to see how they would turn out. Spares or Ebay sale material for $$$.
Removed every bit of crud & decades old baked on carbon.
Ultra Sonic Cleaning is Amazing. No better way to clean parts. Really is BEST !!!!
Never scrubbed once with a solvent brush !

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

thats awesome.... frees up your time to do other stuff so you could clean parts while you do other shit instead of spending hours scrubbing and soaking and scrubbing and soaking and shit... how much does one of those suckers cost?

The amazing fact of Ultra Sonic cleaning is H2O Water is all that's really required .
Just a small amount of Ulta sonic cleaner agent is added.
Can use SIMPLE GREEN CLEANER TOO.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

my buddy has a small ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning his guns and gun parts, but it wont fit anything much bigger than a long connecting rod and piston.... certainly not a crankshaft set him back a few hundred bucks at a gun show display model discount

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

this one heres only 2700 bucks, and its 19.5" wide, which i THINK will fit a sbc crank...

http://www.grainger.com/product/BRANSON ... ?$smthumb$

if its 2700 bucks at grainger i bet you can find a similar one cheaper somewhere else.

in the meantime i think its awesome you get to use the big boy piece at work haha

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

I looked on Fleabay from my phone now. Found few Ultra Sonic Cleaners.

The one at work is HUGE.
40 Gallon liquid capacity.
About the size if my old Snap On KRL Series Toolbox.
Had to be very expensive when new.
I had to repair it recent. Died went dead.
Replaced The main Contactors magnetic pole relays.
Has 2 main Sonic Generators.
All stainless steel and TIG WELDED Together.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

I found an affordable Ultra Sonic Cleaner I like for at home use Phil.
When the tax return comes back $ I think I will buy this.

Have My 1965 GTO Tri- power Carburetors to rebuild for the 1963 Grand Prix & SD-455 800cfm carb for the Trans Am.
When I go drag racing for max ET & MPH I will switch to my 1085 CFM Bo Laws Holley 4-bbl to achieve 100-140 % VE Volumemetric efficiency.
The 800 CFM Q-jet delivers up 20 miles per gallon on 110 race gas if I keep my foot out of it.
Bo Laws is meant just to win Drag & Street Races.

When it warms up here Phil I am going to try Electrolysis cleaning also.
Some parts I have kept saved are super rusty from neglect time.
Picked them up dirt cheap or free.
New job is alot less stressfull. I want to build this year. Engines , transmissions and rear differentials.
Only the Trans Am must be race carfast.
Leaves freedom to do other projects on budget.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Researching Ultrasonic cleaners and CREST Seems to be the best but they are very proud of them.
Big models cost thousands $$$$.
Fleabay China models are affordable .
Found a 6 liter model for $161.00 Free shipping.
200 watts of sonic cleaning power. Heated also.
Post a picture later.
Have lots of small parts to clean. Be a real time saver having a Small Sonic Cleaner at home.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

yea man i mean a little cheapy piece to do small parts like rocker arms and valves and stuff would be nice... think im gonna try out that cheapo harbor freight one for just that purpose.. but it would be somethin else altogether to have one big enough for a crank, or a head, or even a block! theres somethin fancy!

Check out branson also look for used on ebay. The specs you need to look at are frequency of sonics the faster the sonics the finer cleaning. The slower speeds clean fast but not as much in the nooks and cranies. Also temp settings are a bonus. Use one everyday at work.

Can't fit the 455 GTO Block into Sonic.
Actually could but won't be able to lift it back out.
Machine is 4 feet high.

Clean the 455 block soon.
Car wash at night.

I try and not think about it John.
Thinking Pocho Pontiacs of mine.
Said the hell with Corvettes this year and dickheads.
Racing...Hellcats & SRT Viper T/A To beat .
Midnight Street Race action.

5.0 Gang in Joliet back with 8 & 6 second 1/4 cars.
Rear Diffs to build for them again.
Sidejobs local again.

Build a new garage.

Also thinking of Olds V8 power again.
Have thier own power band with 6 degree valve inclination heads.
Still have my 1965 Olds 425 A 360Hp 470 ft/lb engine & Olds 403.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Economy is slowly getting better some paint work and ink flowing my way. Down the road will build a nasty s475 turbo build. Maybe compound Phil style. Something all race with a plate. Good to see things on the up for ya Brian.
