while it can be done in some garages its rarely a good idea or safe to do,
most prefab aluminum building roof beams might deform under the load, many wood beams risk cracking
you certainly would not be the first person to be injured doing that!

a short block assembly (block and rotating internal parts might only weigh 300-450 lbs)
but a fully assembled engine and trans THAT YOU REMOVED OR REINSTALLED could be considerably heavier

MOST TRANSMISSIONS WEIGHT, IN THE 100lb-400 lbs , ADD THE FLYWHEEL OR FLEXPLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER AND BELL HOUSING THATS EASILY ADDED 60-120 EXTRA LBS

why not buy. borrow or rent
and use the correct tool, use of a block & tackle or even a differential chain hoist or come along to pull an engine is both dangerous and more difficult
and not risk damaging the ceiling beams
you can roll a engine crane back away from the car,or position it side to side far easier vs having to roll the car out from under the engine

ADDING A FORGED 3 TON SWIVEL HOOK MAKES THE JOB EASIER

btw having an engine leveler tool also helps
yes it costs a bit more money, but its far safer and easier to use and you then have the required tools to re-install the engine
