guys I generally don,t listen to a radio when I work, but a lot of my friends have asked why I don,t have at least a larger radio that plays music or at least the news channels while we work on the cars in the shop.
so for those guys I purchased a radio.
now I have zero problem with the radio, playing ,most of the time so I bought several over the last few years at yard sales and plugged them into outlets that go on when the motion sensors detect movement in the shop, that way they serve twin purposes, they provide a working radio when someones in the shop and also allow me to have an extra security related indication if the motion detectors detect movement in the shop when Im walking up at night to check what the security system in my home says is going on in the shop, the sensors plus the radio and motion sensor lighting allow me a good indication if the security system actually has detected movement.
now heres the issue Im having, Im looking for a dirt cheap radio thats both loud enough to be easily heard in a 2664 sq ft shop over the fans, air compressors etc and reasonably dependable, Ive replaced the darn 110 volt desk radios Ive purchased at various yard sales now 5 times, I don,t have the money or even want to spend much on this, as its a very low priority, and yes I can just keep purchasing $10-$15 yard sale radios, Ive generally wired these to two remote speakers and most only last a few months in use before crapping out!
but I could use some ideas ,as to where I can find a very low cost yet dependable radio, preferably with the amps to run at least two remote located speakers. personally adding a few more motion detection lights and a seriously loud shrill siren in addition to the strobes and alarm buzzer to the system would be a good option , for me personally and I might do that on a switched circuit, but like I stated many of the guys that visit would like a decent radio on in the shop.
