there are few tools as necessary as a vise to hold things firmly that your working on, and a drill press or BOTH combined, at times, but if you do get a vise mount it near a bench corner, and ideally find a vise that has at least a minimum of 6" wide jaws that open to more than 6" as anything smaller seems to be too small for auto shop use, in my experience, and you want it mounted firmly to a good support so you can use it as a point of leverage to bend and hammer on parts, or to hold parts while welding or brazing, without fear of damaging the bench the vise is mounted too, or tipping the bench over
