1965 Olds 425 V8 Hotrod Magazine November 1964

The Grand Prix rides much like a New Cadillac .
Silky Smooth.
Don't really notice a Bad tire failing till it lets go.
Kinda amazing what Pontiac built for 1963.

I have to wait a day or so for my Bud Mopar Bob to resurface the 193 TBI Heads for my Suburban.
So I have free time to work on Grand Prix.
Tomarrow I am going to remove the Fel Pro Nylon Valvestem seals I installed a few months back.
Install my New Blue Viton Valvestem seals.

Weather is getting Hot.
Next Friday its supposed to be 98 F here.

I ran the Grand Prix on Shell 93 RM/2 with Nitro additive today & drove it 80 miles roundtrip.
Runs very good on shell E10 93.

Not very fussy with gasoline as long as 91 RM/2 is met at least.

Its Raining steady this morning .
Wasn't supposed to rain till tonight.
Storm blew in at 3Am & got me up.

Looks like I will install my new Viton valvestem seals another day.

Have to find something else to do.
Maybe Mopar Bob will have my Suburban 193 heads done today milling clean.

I feel like tinkering with one of My Pontiac V8 Vertex OAC Magnetos today.
An Early Tan Cap unit From 1959-1960 I have.
Set it up on my SUN Distributor Machine.

The Sun is out.
No more rain till tonight.
Going to install my Alex Parts sourced Blue Viton Valvestem seals on my Olds 425 in the Grand Prix.

What is the factory SCR on that OLDS 425 engine?

What is the factory SCR on that OLDS 425 engine?
10.25 :1 SCR Mike.

Factory quench is set at .030-.035 Reading on the Olds sites in past.
Head gaskets are .015-.017" thick. Shim style. Unobtainable today.
Fel Pro is .039 " thick compressed.
Its a Double quench style combustion chamber.
Squishes from 2 sides..Just Olds did that.

Once rebuilt the piston availabilty is just for the 2-bbl 310 HP rated 425 engines with 9.0:1 static you can buy. Kanter Auto.

Otherwise its custom Ross Or Diamond pistons must be made.

Starfire 425 had 10.5:1.
1965-66 only.
67 Olds Starfire was gone. Toranado out.

Was reading on the Trans Am site just before.
They are Big Olds V8 fans too.
Anything goes ...what I like.
Small group too like here.

I was going to say you got lucky, but you had a good eye and knew exactly what you were looking at.
I'm glad that engine is in such good shape and running well for you.

Got it done Grumpy.
Changed the Oil & Filter too.
Set valves again.
Good to go.

Just Fine.
Took it down the Highway.
Just got back.
Leaving to get my 193 Suburban Heads.
Taking the 63 GP Of course.

I installed Accel 134 non resistor spark plus too.
Try them out for a few days.
Usually my Street Runner Spark Plugs with my 614 Ram Air IV / 4 Pontiac Trans Am Heads.

I started the Grand Prix to move it to shade of the trees I have here Grumpy.
Its hitting hard and idling smooth.
Its already getting Hot & Very Humid.
Dew everywhere.
The Non Resistor 134 Accel plugs have a hotter Flame Kernal with the Vertex Mag.
No Fumes.
Slow to warm up. Colder plug that works nice in 12.0-13.0: 1 static compression ratio engines for me in past.
Think When its hot like now I need to jet down 1-2 sizes.
The 770cfm Holley is jetted ideal when its 40-70 F out.

I never had an issue with them Mike.
I route them away from Exhaust heat.
Copper probably better.
Braided pre made Earls Race hose #4AN Best I know.
Low dollar build with very good Results.
The Trans Am & Corvette gets the Very Best Hardware I have.

Like those plastic vacuum lines, they get brittle over time and can snap.
A buddy back in high school had the plastic line routed into the passenger compartment
where the gas pedal comes through (not smart). He accidentally kicked it with his brand new
Herman Survivors boots and by the time he got to school, he had a few quarts of hot oil all over them.
