468 build

Motors in and running, just fired it and ran it today actually. I swapped in some electric rad fans off a newer gm truck. My buddys coming by tomorrow to wire em up for me. Then get it timed and break it in.
My first impression.....smile hasn't left my face yet. It sounds mean, I've never heard my exhaust so snappy and loud, I'll get some pics on here

It would also be great if you would post a list of the final parts used in the build please

Having trouble loading some photos, i'll get it figured. Here's the finished motor...
1975 2 bolt block, cleaned sonic tested, decked and bored .60 over
cast crank
truck thumb rods 3/8" arp bolts
speed pro hypertectic 30cc dome pistons
melling high flow oil pump
comp cams xr288hr hydraulic roller cam
balanced rotating assembly
rectangle port 990 heads reconditioned, new valve seals, guides, angle valve job, decked
comp valve springs
comp hydraulic roller lifters
crane gold roller rockers
edelbrock performer rpm dual plane intake
holley 770 street avenger carb
msd ignition with hei distributor
*engine builder didn't give me exact specs on it, deck height, head cc's, said it was around 9 3/4:1 compression. dyno was out of my budget at the time. they estimate 475-500 hp as a ballpark. i thought it'd have more compression since heads were decked prior to them decking them again and block was done too. could probably call it a 500 hp motor. built at a reputable speed shop should be a good runner

Ive ran into a few hiccups along the way but managed to install the electric fans, get my motor buttoned up and timed and finally take my truck for a drive. I took it easy just feeling it out only reving it up to 3000 ish to shift. Has lots of power no hesitation at all. Fires up fast and revs smooth. I lugged it a bit turning into my street and it didnt like it. It likes idling at 8-900 rpm and has a great rumble and lopey idle. Sounds awesome. Im gonna try to get some pics up, bear with me I need a new laptop mines ancient.

Thanks im pretty happy with it. I know, pretty motor, dirty engine bay. It'll get some mud on it I'm sure. Right now I've been driving it daily to break it in. I've been doing searches for break in procedures for roller cam motors. Finding alot of different info. Do you guys know of a good break in read for me? Just for some guidelines

You should consider an air filter prewrap with all that mud. It will keep the mud
from getting packed in the pleats of the air cleaner element.

I use a k&n prefilter that catches alot of the mud same idea, Wraps around and velcros. definitely helps.
I've put about 300 kms on my motor, city and highway. max 3000-3500 rpm shifting. Is it time to change the oil? Doesnt smoke and after its warm it fires fast and easy. Whats the next oil I should use, good quality 10w30?

Since you just asked 5 people here you'll get 5 different answers and 25 links to read. Default recommendations on bbc engines that are subject to mainly City and Highway use, no hard dusty duty use, follow label on oil or 3,000 miles.

Here is my 2 cents: break-in oil is still in engine, correct? Continue using that without beating on the truck
until 1000 km (almost 500 miles). Then change oil to good quality DINO oil 10W30. I personally would
add in some Marvel Mystery oil and ZDDP additive to be on the safe side. I know you went with the roller
camshaft, but there are many other points in that engine that have sliding friction that could benefit from
those additives. Use the 10W30 for another 1500 miles, and then you can change to synthetic or synthetic
blend, if you wish. From then on, depending how much mud racing you do, change it every 3000 miles.
The newer oils marketed for extended oil changes (5000, 7500, 10000, 15000 miles) do not apply to you!
Those oils are for the newer, computer controlled, fuel injected modern engines. You can't just pour one of
those oils in your old-school BBC and think you don't have to change the oil for 15000 miles.

Yeah there's 15w40 in it right now. I was questioning because I've read lots of different things on break in time. As little as an hour in one link. That sounds like a good plan loves302chevy, thanks for the detailed reply
