TBucket Engine Project (Dart SHP)

heres a quick video describing the speedhut gauges. you can choose one of 8 custom fonts for your gauge, i believe theres five styles of tickers, eight or ten bezel rings, basically any combination of face color and illumination color that you can want.... and theres also the addition of custom text and logos on the gauge if you so choose all included in the base price.

Oh Whow Phil......
Those Speedhut Race Guages Look Awesome in that 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Dash . Convertible Stang Too.
An Awesome Muscle Ford just got 100 times Kooler.

yea they are on par with the cost of autometers, but with the gps feature and full customization available its a no brainer... get exactly what you want

Its not so easy replacing the Speedo in my 1963 Grand Prix.
Its a huge monster. 120 degree sweep.
It also has a Kool Red Indian Chief Guy that lights up Red with the High Beam headlights on.
A neat Pontiac big car touch.
Car has No A/C so it has the Racey Rally pack guage layout in the middle if dashboard.
Thinking Speedhut some how.

looks like this?

i would honestly keep the stock speedo, and if putting all new gauges get all the replacements for stock and add a baby gps speedo (records top speeds and will hit you up with a gps measured 1/4 mile time and e/t) to go opposite or adjacent to the baby tach that comes stock...

I'm sure its just me! but these particular gauges, impress me as so darn UGLY that you can,t help but stare , "kind of like, seeing a really bad car wreck, you know was caused by stupid driver error" you really don,t want to see the gore, that resulted , but its hard not to look!, and say to your self what were they thinking

oh yea... thats the downside of something that fully customizable by the end user... you end up with some people with really bad taste and more money than brains buying some ugly shit... but car culture has always been that way.

its like a tijuana donkey show... you wanna look away but you just cant.

those gauges are a good exmple of how extremely custom you can take the speedhuts tho.. so its a fair display on their part.

I HAD GOTTEN WHAT I THOUGHT was a rather interesting question , asked in a recent ,personal e-mail, concerning this thread, and it got me to thinking about it, I was being asked several questions about the t-bucket build in this thread, and what I would have changed If I built the car.
Now keep in mind this info is not especially in any way supposed to be "better" its just what I would have build ,simply because its what I really like, and if you were to build a car, I would fully expect you to incorporate what YOU felt were important features, into the mix,
I showed this post to BOB,as I was typing it up,and, as I was typing , he said he would have vastly preferred a 500 cubic inch HEMI, as nothing beats those big chrome valve covers and distributor sticking out in the front, well, unless you could find a ford SOHC CAMMER or BOSS 429 engine of course
boss_429a.jpg

427sohc1.jpg

well that QUESTION IS a bit like asking someone else to select the ideal wife or girl friend for you, and that of course is never going to be an exact match...
and what I MIGHT FEEL IS IMPORTANT FEATURES IN A CARS DESIGN WOULD VERY LIKELY BE EITHER IGNORED OR LAUGHED AT BY MANY OTHER PEOPLE
BUT AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT A BIT I CAME TO A FEW CONCLUSIONS ,
that does,n in any way indicate my thoughts are necessarily better or what anyone else might decide to do, but if I were to build a T-bucket type car , I think the major components would include the following list of changes , mostly because I'm either much more comfortable or familiar with the components listed or I feel that incorporating them made ME feel better.
first theres zero question it would have a dana 60 rear differential with massive disc brakes, with a 3.54:1 rear gear ratio ,and a 4l80e trans with a 2800 stall speed converter, full manual control transmission, and front disc brakes ,and id have figured out some way to convert to a independent front a arm suspension rather than the older I beam front axle while still keeping the basic t-bucket look at least superficially, Id also have selected a 555 cubic inch big block chevy with 6.535 connecting rods with a forged scat ROTATING ASSEMBLY with a low rise dual quad EDELBROCK AIR GAP intake and not for reasons that many guys might think (MORE power) because RICKS current sbc should easily get that car deep in the 10 second range should he choose to pursue setting it up to do so.(so power is hardly lacking), and trust me a 10 second T-bucket is scary fast for most people
but mostly because I'm far more comfortable building dual quad big block engines and a 540-555 cubic inch built on a dart TALL DECK block is a very effective platform I'm quite familiar with building.
Id also lengthen the frame to have a bit more room for installing a larger radiator fuel tank and oil cooler, and 4-2-1 long tube headers with 34" primaries 18' secondaries and 3.5" collectors , and while you may or may not like the look I like the increased power curve the different sound and the feel of that power curve the exhaust headers add to the engine

yeah, after listing out the dream sheet and pricing a few parts, as you can see, probably why I have not built a t-bucket, or similar project car, on my limited budget

I'm sure there are several Bore x Stroke combinations to get 555 Cu In, but I
assumed a 4.25" stroke. The cam card says Max RPM is 7000, so if you only
pushed it to say 6800 RPM that gives a mean piston speed of 4817 FPM. That
seems kinda high for Scat rotating assembly, maybe you are thinking a lower
max rpm possibly??? I'm sure you must have considered the piston speed, but
it's not obvious in the post where you are thinking about shifting.
PistonSpeed02.JPG

You are designing for function over looks for a strictly straight line car, where I
have paid more attention to looks while still trying for some very decent performance
and comfortable ride. Like you say, there is no right or wrong, just different goals.

As far as picking me a wife [mistress], any of those in the pictures you have posted
will be Just Fine with me!!!

When can I expect her???

actually a 555 has a 4.375" stroke and 4.5" bore and Id be limiting the rpms to 6000 rpm on a street driven engine

as to the testosterone washed fantasy ,play toys, this gal looks like she might have potential, if she was in the mood to provide you with a memorably good time...I can,t help being MALE and love long leggy brunettes with obvious additional feature enhancements and in my opinion, if your single and old enough to be anywhere close to my age, the thought of having a gal that looks like that being extremely friendly and pealing out of that dress doesn't sent your heart beat racing higher theres something VERY wrong with you

my wife would point out that something like that would likely kill me with a heart attack! and if it did not she would ! when she found out!

Since spare $$ is so tight for all today,
I would make Rear suspension changes & change the Rear Diff.
I think the solid I beam axle is Ok.
Its Old School & Period Correct.
I would use a 1957 Olds 9.300" Rear.
Strong as a Dana 60. Same weight .
Drum Brakes Ok. T-bucket so light.
4-Link rear. Coil over modern adjustable drag shocks.
I have a nice 1957 Olds Rear Diff I can build for Rick & sell it to him.
Its the real limitation to Drag Racing hard now.
I don't trust the current rear suspension layout.
It could fail. Then Rick is gone.

One 1957 Olds Rear 9.3 I have Rick is near Mint.
No Rust Pits. Never in a Drag Car or Gasser Race machine.
Bone stock. From a California car. Had it shipped to me in IL.
3.42 Gears. Many Gearsets made for 9.3 stock & aftermarket.
More than Dana 60 selection.
Its Period correct for the T bucket also.

There is Nothing Like a Homemade set Of Gasser Era Style Traction bars that extend 1/2 to 2/3 full length forward towards Front wheels.
Just look Awesome.
Picking up another 57-58 Pontiac 9.3 soon Rick. This One Posi Unit.
All setup to bolt direct under a Fox Body 5.0 Stang.
Where it was last hung in 1998-99.
Have the $$. Ebay sales did good.
