timing chain

i got the rightt size pushrod from autozone so hope thats all i have to buy now. however, i was trying to put my new timing cover seal on the new timing cover and it just wont fit. its a little to big and i tried to bang it in but i dont want to mess up the cover. is there something i need to do?

most guys use a block of 4x4 wood placed against the opposite side of the timing cover to support it when the use a large plastic mallet to seat the crank seal into the cover

hi paul i have a few questions.

1. well i put my timing chain and got it at 12 o'clock TDC, then after i put in the lifters, but i want to since its at TDC and with both lifters down in cyl 1 can i adjusted the valve lash just like that or d i still have to rotate it again?

2. i was a little confused on your tread about putting the intake back on. do i have too put the silicone and let it dry on the block then put the intake gasket and the intake? or do i do it all at once?

3. where can i find info on my car for how much i need to torque bolts around the motor?

ok thanks i got it all. but on zero lash, does that mean its not suppose to spin and move up and down? or just moe up and down.
and can i use hi temp silicon on the timing cover of just the gasket?

theres supposed to be some slack in the valve train, ID strongly suggest setting the lifter preload at idle not static as that generally causes problems
the hi temp silicon can be used on the timing cover and the gasket

read thru these LINKS AND SUB LINKS CAREFULLY

the red stuff works , you can use it,but its not quite as (sticky and stretchy & adhesive in consistency), the formulas designed to cope with higher heat at the expense of some of its glue like consistency

hey paul while i was at work last night its started raining and i had left a cover over my motor because i removed the hood. but when i got home i think the wind blew it off and got everything wet. the only thing i didnt put back was the distributor, carb and oil pan. should i let is dry out in the sun. or should i worry? i am thinking my alternator is no good now

ITS unlikely that any real damage got done, assemble the rest and engine heat should quickly remove moisture once its running

hey paul its been about a week or two since i put the new cam and lifters. has that been too long of a time to start it up. just dont know if the cam lube will run dry or just wont last?

hey paul i had forgot to mention but when i was installing my intake some of the intake bolts were to put on. the socket would not fit so i had to use pliers or wrench. i was thinking that who ever converted my crossfire to carb use the same intake bolts. do i need a diffrent set?

if the bolt heads are buggered up or rounded off,to the point that the correct tools don,t work, yes you probably need new bolts, but if its just an issue of you not having the correct tool to access the bolt correctly, you need to find the correct wrench's

i think i stripped my crankshaft bolt while trying to turn the engine. where can i get one? do i also have tap in the crankshaft?

well i got everything put back together and when i started the car it just cranks and does not turn over. i check the timed and made sure everything is connected and nothing. the only thing that does not seem right is that my carburator always spits out the fuel.
also could i mess up the camshaft if i keep on trying to turn it without it turning over?

well i just put some carb cleaning in the carb and now it seems like its trying to turn and makes like a puff sound and smoke comes out of the carb
