Unforgiven Project

Scat also reminded me that if I upgrade to the ARP2000 I will need to have the big ends of the rods resized.

if I owned that or a similar raised 4x4 truck,
one of the very first projects I would have ,built
(without a seconds hesitation):D
(one of the endless reasons to own a decent mig welder):p

heres an option you might consider if moneys really tight

would have been a height and angle adjustable customized version of this ,
mechanics access support tool, from one of my spare engine cranes,
with a larger well padded platform to lay on comfortably that allowed you to lay over
, and have easy access into,
the raised trucks engine compartment,

one nice feature of having a decent mig welder is that with a few measurements and fabrication skills ,
and a few 10 ft sections of 1.5" angle iron and 1" square steel tube
and a metal saw, and some basic skills ,
mechanics could easily have a rather comfortable way,
to easily access a otherwise hard to get into engine bay on a tall truck,
a thick pad off a lounge deck chair on a 3/4" plywood platform securely bolted to the platform,
on the upper adjustable arm extending over the fenders would help,

you might also have added adjustable lighting to the under side of the boom in several locations,
and a small magnetic tool access tray,
think of it as a mechanics creeper thats solidly supported at a bit higher height than your truck fenders,
with infinitely adjustable angle for easy access,
with a ladder for easy support platform access , adjustable lighting,
Id also have the height as well as the angle adjustable,
a telescoping upper boom height is not that hard to fabricate

I have a bakers scaffold that I used to place in front of the truck.. but I found that It was easier to just climb the cleats on the tire to get into the engine bay.. 051751094794xl.jpg

A stair case next to the truck would be awesome tho! Simular to this...

Back on the truck.... After all the concern that I was facing with the si-10 alternator not being able to put out enough volts at an idle for my EFI
to work.....Did you guys notice the voltage on the handheld screen in the video that I posted... 13.9V at an 850-950 idle!!
I am glad I did not waste money on a new alternator that I did not need!

Always look before you leap--especially when it comes to spending money. Always test and verify. I hate spending money unnecessarily. Only when I can't remember that I already have 2 at home when I find things on sale!!!! I buy another one!!!!

LOL !!! I cant tell you how many times I have done the same thing.. Good deal cant remember having one... buy it on sale... come home to see I have one hanging on the wall or setting in a cupboard!!

I now have 3 one ton chain hoists--2 belt/disc sanders-- on and on. All still in boxes and some more than 3 years older than others. It's just money that I spent instead of my children who can fight over who gets what when I die.

The wife and I were watching a "Last Man Standing" Program the other night.. The plot was about how a his neighbors wife's husband had past away..
he was into model tanks and battlefield sets. The display was to be sold off.. but Tim decided to set it all back up in her basement so she and the children could go down and sit, and remember what this man was about and reflect on his hobbies.

After the show.. I turned to my wife and asked her if ..if I pass before her, would she bring the grandson over to go sit in the barn with her and reflect on what my hobbies were and how I loved them...She told me..QOUTE: " HELL NO, most people lay in their casket with their hands folded... instead,
you will be holding a sign with your hands that reads... TRUCK FOR SALE i'm done with it!
Then she guaranteed me the that Damn truck would be the first thing she sells!

She was laughing but ... she was serious at the same time... She is mad about the amount of money invested into it.

Ever think about about going to streetrods? That way she gets to participate and even drive,
she will the get attention and everyone likes that!

It's much easier to speed money when she is having fun also!

Tell your lovely wife that I (IDIOT) have spent $7000.00 on a 1995 Dodge 4X4 so I wouldn't have a truck payment with the accessories this one has. $85,000.00 to replace and that your truck is NOT an every day driver you have to depend on.. It (play toy) can sit until you get funds or OK from boss to rebuild. Give her a kiss and tell her that was from me and she will either laugh or smack you one.

LOL.... she is wanting a street car. I think I posted the 67 firebird she wanted... maybe it might happen come springtime. She just plain wants me out of the truck hobby. yes its cause she
don't like the sport. A street car is something she can partake in. Problem with high horsepower motors is that you can't set them free on a public road. Ends up with high insurance bills!

You are right, but there are times when you can. For me it's the Small Town Weekend in El Reno, where
we race on Route 66. Also when I was tuning the carburetor, I made 10-15 WOT runs also on Route 66,
but not legal this time. You do have to be smart about it.

In September we go to the Lake of the Ozarks, where a local car show invites our group to come in for a
couple of hours free. Then when we leave they ask us to do burn outs as we leave. It collects a pretty good
size crowd.

I tore the motor down today. I think I was very lucky from what I was seeing.. I have taken alot of pics... so I will just post a string of them for your viewing pleasures!:D

Some of the pics show how aluminum got into the lifter valley. Need to power wash everything really good again. I made a video for you to watch also! It is not of Rick's
quality... but I thought it would help everyone understand what I am seeing. It's about 11 minutes long, so grab a coffee or some popcorn!
Here is the video link.

Sure looks like the valve hit this piston, BUT it seems to be along ways from the circumference
of the valve relief that it could have happened after the valve was bent.

What cylinder is this ???

OK, I see after watching the video, this is the exhaust valve on cylinder #3.
