1965 Olds 425 V8 Hotrod Magazine November 1964

Pontiac had the same Code Ratios 1957-1964.

They are the same for earlier Pontiac Rears from what I have found.
1937- 1956.

Surprising early Pontiac Straight 6's & straight 8's cars usually had 3.90 :1 gears & often 4.30 :1 gears.
No Overdrive back then.
Just on High end cars like the Duesenburg SSJ had Overdrive I recall.

# 9 ='s 3.23 :1. What I have.
Verified in the past marking the driveshaft & Rear wheels with white chalk lines drawn.
Rotated the rear tires One turn with trans in neutral & counted how many turns the driveshaft rotated around.
Then reversed procedure & counted how many turns of the driveshaft to equal 1 turn of both rear wheels off the ground.

I would love it if you had one of these. And made posts about it just
like you are doing with your 63 GP with the Olds 425A.

The COOL factor of this thing is off the charts.

I rebuilt the Holley Fuel Pressure Regulator tiday.
Its about 20 years old.
Used a Holley rebuild kit I bought off of ebay for $6.99 free shipping. It arrived today.
Set Fuel pressure to 7 psi.

I also installed a Tighter fitting oil cap.
From a 1957 Olds J-2 Tripower.
Factory part.
The Other chrome oil cap I got with the Olds 425 engine was a Spectra part.
Kinda a POS. It was vibrating loose WOT.
Tilt out and splash oil.
Timing chain is direct below on Olds V8 Oil fill tubes up front.

I went for a late night ride for 1 hour up and down the Highway. 70-80 Mph.
Its Running Great.
About 100 miles on the 425 engine now.
No Blowby issues.
Piston Rings are sealed tight.
Valves and seats sealing like new too.

No exhaust yet Birdman.
Open right off the 1965 OLDS STARFIRE Exhaust manifolds from Fusicks.

I am going to drive the '63 GP to work tomarrow.
Lay a few Twin strip Rubber patches.

I filled the gas tank on the 1963 Grand Prix Grumpy tonight.
20 gallons of 91 octane Ethanol free pump gas.
Added in 1/2 bottle of Marvel Mystery oil to the gas tank.
Added 1 bottle of 104 + concentrate...it was just $1.00 buck at Wally World I found during lunch.
Added 2 ounced of CD2 Lead subsitute fpr tbe Valves & seats.
Driving in to work. 7am - 12 noon.
Then driving down to Peoria. 65 -70 miles more.
Drive home.
Sunday Ed wants me to stop by.
Joliet.
Maybe drive my '63 GP again too.
Be 150-160 miles roundtrip.
We have a 2012 Audi R8 V10 AWD Supercar to work on and Fab.
Twin Turbo. 900-1000 HP To the ground.
We have to build Intercoolers & Cold Side Duct work.
Also I have an 8.8 Ford Rear diff to builf.
Audi is a $180 K Racer ....
Holy Shit......

Weare old Pros Fabbing for Race cars Grumpy.

a 1/2 dozen-to dozen pictures might be nice if you have time, of the work

Try Grumpy .
We haven't had anything like prior.
Ed and Me worked on numerous NHRA NMRA 5.0 Stangs.
It was before Bam azzhole.
$100,000 Top Value.

No issues driving the '63 GP to work and back Grumpy.
Drove perfect.
Kinda wish I had Overdrive .
Gear Vendors Turbo 400 setup.
Or 4L80E.
Both out of Budget right now.
I can cruise 80 mph all day long with 3.23 gears in the 9.3 Rear Diff.
Traffic really is average 90 + Mph here.
Just No 5.0.
Few around I know where they hide.
I rode by 90 & A-OK.

The Grand Prix can cruise 100 +.
Wide Track & she handles nice.
Rides nicer than my C4 Corvette over bumps.
But The Corvette has Super Cornering Power that can only Be Matched By A Porsche Or Ferrari .

I'll bet that most people that see that old boat doing 90 down the highway must figure
you have the gas pedal pushed through the floorboard to reach that speed.
Little do they know.

I just don't want oil temps getting to high.
No way to monitor .
Have an oil temp guage in my 70 Trans Am.
Autometer Mechanical .

80 mph Ok for hours cruising.

Takes $ to plumb in an oil cooler.
$300-$700 cash.
I don't have it right now Mike.

Taller gearset best option .
But opposite of Drag Race....Low gears.
