1965 Olds 425 V8 Hotrod Magazine November 1964

I found a 425 Olds V8 water pump.
Correct height.
But it does me no good without the matching unique accessory brackets and power steering pump.

My old used 403 water pump is in good shape yet.
I installed new back in 2004.
But I chose to use my Fresh Rebuilt 403 water pump.

I already told you last year I made an arraignment with a friend that owns a junkyard in Philly and he's on the parts network system. Getting your Olds 425 parts shouldn't be any problem. In fact, I've been sitting on that Pontiac trunk lid emblem you asked for

Its the Entire Rear Chrome piece I am after.
I had a chance to buy NOS GM years ago but didn't.
$450.00.
Talk later.
Helping Jimmy on his 1966 Impala Frank The Tank.
Work on my projects again today also.

Yes I know, it is a on year only piece that runs the length of the trunk lid. The condition it's in it might as well be a nos piece. If you don't want it that's fine. I've been selling all my Pontiac finds to Ames.

Send me a picture Richard.
If its nice Yes I am interested and want the 1963 G.P. Rear Trunklid Decklid Decrotive Chrome..
They had a Really nice Checkered Flag Emblem in the Right Hand Corner.
Grand Prix .

The 1965 Oldsmobile 425 Exhaust Manifolds fit my 1963 Grand Prix like a Glove.
Well worth the $$$spent for them.

I took cranking compression readings today, the engine was cold & has not ran now for 6 years.
I never squirted any oil into any cylinders.
Looks promising.
#1 cylinder has a hair over 180 psi.
Looks like a I have a 91 octane gasoline burning engine. Possible 93 octane.
Once the Engine fires up on its own the Cylinders compression should be even across the board.

I ran into an issue today.
The 1965 Olds 425 has a unique 4-bbl intake manifold, 1 year only.
It original used a Large Bore Rochestor 4GC carburetor.
Same bore spread as Carter AFB.
My Holley 770 cfm Street Avenger carb wont bolt on.
Holley uses a larger bolt pattern.
Summit Racing makes and sells the Holley square bore carb to Carter- Rochestor intake manifold adapter.
NOT SURE I WANT TO BUY IT.

I have a Vintage Offenhauser Olds 425-455 4-bbl intake I bought back in the summer of 2014.
Was on a guys 1968 442 455.
He Loved the Offy Intake and said it performed fantastic on the street for him with excellent WOT Power.

I think I will swap out Intakes this week.
I have the correct Olds 425-455 Intake manifold gasket set here.

I recall these Olds Big Block Factory Cast Iron Intakes are real heavy.....65-75 pounds.

Think I will do it.....Aluminum Offy.

I have Vintage Mickey Thompson Valvecovers too.
They have the Very KOOL OLDS ROCKET LOGO ON THEM....Issued in 1965 only.

The exhaust looks too nice for the rest of the engine now..... :p

I will repaint the engine in the car when I am done Jimmy.
I will use VHT High Temp Engine primer this time before the Pontiac Super Duty Blue.
Winter weather in a cold garage here in Illinois is Hell on cast iron. Thermal expansion & contraction.
Paint gives out.
I had her painted real nice back in 2011.

Get a picture up of the Offy Intake I plan to use in next hour.
Grumpy don't like them.
I researched in the past.
They were original Pontiac V8 & Olds V8 design only.
Old timers on the HAMB BOARD USED BACK IN THE DAY WITH GOOD RESULTS .

My late bud Bill used on his BBC Vette also. He modified internal and told me how he did so.
I never seen the actuall work hid inside .
When I say Fast.....and his Vette was....Like an 8-second drag car unleashed on the street.

Try. If it don't work I have the stock lump of iron Olds Intake yet.

with every design change you get a compromise in some area, theres no free lunch, but there are choices to be made and at times those compromises benefit the application,
offy dual port intake manifolds, use a smaller separate lower set of intake runner passages,
to radically boost intake manifold runner air speeds too in theory increase the fuel to air mix and port filling efficiency
offydualp1.jpg

offydualp2.jpg

this actually works rather well in the lower rpms and as the secondary larger upper tandem ports open up that faster lower current of fast moving air tends to help the transition or slower air mix and keep up,the problem is that the divider wall between the ports is thick enough to limit the total available cross sectional area so that while low and mid rpm torque tends to benefit from the designs characteristic flow rates the peak power is slightly restricted over what you could potentially get from a more common, single larger, cross sectional area available in the intake runner port manifold like the wieand or edelbrock designs

No more money on hand for this project Grumpy.
Run it. Try it.
I read all online on Offy.
Only The Olds Guys Unamious say it works.
Made for Olds V8 only original .
Divider moved around top to bottom per engine family.

I would not use on a SBC To Chase down Hellcats Street Racing For $10,000 bucks Cash.

Its an Amazing Precision casting Grumpy.
Made better than my 1970-1/2 T/A RAIV FACTORY INTAKE.

ZERO CORE SHIFT.
NO PART NUMBER.
NO DATE CODE.
I THINK CIRCA 1970-71 MADE.

I have the Fel Pro Olds Big Block intake gasket at home.
Don't work I am out the $20 for another intake gasket.....steel shim bathtub style Olds V8 uses.
