1994 K1500 Suburban 4X4, Another SBC Bites The Dust

Still like painting with PPG Paints custom mixed for me.
$200-300 in paint supplies required to paint the 1970-1/2 Trans Am RAIV engine.

Just the Suburban Engine.
VHT is real good.
Crap weather to paint in today.

The Humidity is real high this morning.
Messing with painting.
Are you sure your you didn't let your son paint that?

A few questions...
  • Why Ultra Copper? I thought that was hi-temp for exhaust gaskets. I was told that Ultra GREY works best on the china rails.
  • You didn't change the valve springs. And kept the exhaust valve rotators. Why? Your truck is a 94 and I know you worked on the engine in the past. Are those heads the ones that just came out of the truck? I see that they are centerbolt but are they Vortec.
  • How does it run?

I used Ultra Copper because Grumpy said its best.
I usually use Ultra Grey too.
Try the Ultra Copper on the China Walls.
Grumpy does not give out bad advice.

I didn't change valvesprings because this replacement engine has about 80,000-100,000 miles.
All GM Valvesprings SBC TBI 1987-1995 Were made by Crane Cams for GM.

I kept the exhaust valve rotators because they serve a function.
They extend valve service life with toadays unleaded gasoline.
Oldsmobile used them too.
Except for my 1965 Olds 425 A Ci V8 engine.

Money.is tight.
Engine was bought , Parts,& cleaning supplies from working with my bud Ed.

Not a lot of good paying jobs out there.
Everyone has thoughts of Doomsday End of World, Chicago Race Riots #2 2016 after Dallas Police Shootings by Black Panther Member.

I used the Same Oil pan off my Suburban, Flywheel Flexplate & TBI 2-Bbl Injection only.
Oil pan is specific for 4-wheel drive K series Trucks.

The Rest is replacement 350 engine.
Its a 1989 late build 350TBI engine.
Found definative date codes on the 193 heads under the valvecovers.
Tagged as 1990 engine.

These TBI Engines have no problem Shifting at 5000-5200 pulling a heavy load.
Truck Engine.
Torque.

Hopping in my 1963 Grand Prix soon.
Run to town & Buy more VHT High Temp Gloss Black.
Moisture dried out yesterday .
Paint I applied is Rock Hard.
Have my Suburban running in 2 days or less.

What about the new job you were supposed to start Monday?
No Suburban to drive yet.
Nothing pull my trailer with Toolbox on it.

They called.
Others too.

Gotta have my Suburban back together 1st.

Also apprehensive after Dallas.
Job close to Chicago Chicago.
Chicago Race Riots #2.
Everyone in Joliet knows its coming soon.

With a Traffic Jam in Chicago expressway highways, SHTF,

Pop the Suburban in 4 wheel drive, go off road .
Through Ditches,
Cornfields, anything I may want run over.

I tried painting with the 3rd can of VHT Gloss black paint.
Covered OK but it was just too hot & humid.
Got pissed off & grabbed 2 cans of 1963 SD421 Pontiac Blue VHT paint I had put away.
Looks Great Now !
For whatever reason the Pontiac Blue paint works just Fine in 90 F & real humid weather.
Paint is dried already. Rock Hard.
Ready to install back into my Suburban.

Was wondering about color choice. Now I know. In a Chevy ? OOPS

It Rained a few times this morning Grumpy.
My Cherry Picker wont roll over the wet ground. Just sink.
Calling for heavy rainfall today. 1-2 inches per hour.
Hail & A possible Tornado too.
Wait & see.
Anxious to drop my 350 TBI engine in I built.
Take me 1 hour or less to do.
About 4-5 hours more work & up and running again.
