Unforgiven Project

I need some advise. My friend just called me and says
one of the fellas that work with him has a newer Bowtie block
that he would sell me for $400
I do not know much about those blocks, would it be a good fit for my power levels,
and will my new SBC parts fit that block?
It's going back 3-4 weeks now.
A Bowtie Small Block Chevy was rated around 350-400 Hp only.
Not much better than an 010.

There used to be special Over The Counter Full Water Jacket Small Block Chevy Blocks built for Pro Stock Racing.
I recall 20 years ago.
My old drag race neighbor Mike had all the GM parts race catalogs.
Was not called a Bowtie block.

Brian, That does not say Bow tie
it just says GM Performance
I thought there were sportsman blocks and races blocks

Hello Rick!
yea , it's a setback but... like I mentioned a couple posts ago, He is looking at a bow tie block for me...As of noon today,
he said it is a new block that the man never got around to doing anything with it. He is now retired out of the racing scene and found out about the situation we are in, and offered up the block. He said it has some surface rust on it, but it is a new block. He is going to get some pictures and part numbers to us tonight.

Now I have been researching alot on the bowtie blocks this morning and posted some of the info I have found.
From what I can tell.... GM Performance makes a standard OEM spec block, then it jumps up to a Bowtie
Sportsman block and finally it jumps to a Bowtie racing block.
I can't believe it would be the racing block, my luck has'nt been that good this week!

Who know's... I may have to ask Busterrm if I can borrow his thread title.."
Planning a new 383 build that is now going to be a 400
LOL!

When they are rusty and old I have been told by old timers the cast iron is fully seasoned.
Will not change dimensional shape in any planes.
Cast Iron brinnel same anywhere.

Looks promising.
Lots of shops like to steel shot peen rusty blocks. Does a good job.
Steel shot gets everywhere.
Have to be sure to stick bristle brushes into all and get the steel shot media out.

It does look promising.
Yes I had my local shop here furnace blast and steel shoot peen the block..I thought it was amazing. it got down in the
water jackets and everywhere. I only found one BB in the entire block when I was prepping it for block
fill.
If this new block checks out, my friend said he would sonic boil it first, then he is going to magnaflux it and sonic test it just for added insurance.

I can only imagine how careful he is going to be this time. I almost feel bad for how bad he really feels
for what has happened.

Cleaned up in Evapo rust.
To my amazement no pitting anywhere on machined surfaces. Close to new again.
WOW! that did an amazing job! Is that stuff expensive? and how long will it last. I see you have a nice tub setup . I am thinking of other things I could clean also.

Need just the right size cleaning tub for blocks.
Too big and need lots of Evapo Rust remover.
Strong too.
Steel, Aluminum, stainless steel Fabricated be best.
Make someday.

5 gallons Evapo Rust Remover is $75 from Amazon.
$15.99 - 24.99 per gallon local where you find it.

It lasts along time on small parts.
Large 1 time use or 2 times.

You just never know, yea most of the time it's not the best, BUT IT COULD BE !

Got my finger crossed !!!
